Even if you’ve never set foot on Broadway, the Phantom is a familiar story to all – and now you can make your characters live it out! Obsessive love, hidden lore, and everyone hamming it up more than Miss Piggy’s family reunion – there’s plenty to play with, so raise the curtain and lower the chandelier!

OVERTURE

Where will your thread take place? The traditional theater house has lots of room, but don’t let that limit you – set it in space, in school, have it be literally haunted! Is the place as old as theater itself, or is it a brand-new opening that’s set for disaster? Give it history all its own or allow the Opera Ghost to be the only notable thing around.

THINK OF ME

Our heroine (or hero!) that the Phantom openly desires can return his affections 110%, or be caught in a web of fear and lust. Are they the one actively pursuing the Phantom? Or are they more attached to their own version of Raoul? Maybe she’s down for a third act threesome. What kind of talent can the Phantom bring out of her, and when did this sordid affair start?

LITTLE LOTTE

Raoul is Christine’s childhood friend, lover, husband, hero – or he can be none of the above? Is he as obsessive as the Phantom – or can find himself lured in by the Opera Ghost as well. How far is he willing to go to protect or keep the heroine?

PRIMA DONNA

Other characters do exist in this show, believe it or not! If you need some comedy in this gothic horror, Carlotta is the original star who’s rather peeved about the stolen spotlight, and maybe you can have her try to get in the way of the blossoming romance or even try to snatch the others for themselves. Meg, Christine’s best friend, is she helpful or jealous? The worn-out theater owners, do they want the Phantom dead or use him as a tourist attraction?  Madame Giry, the lady behind the scenes who knows the Phantom better than most – is she secretly bffs with the Opera Ghost, or the one pulling his strings?

ANGEL OF MUSIC

And lastly, the big guy (or girl!) himself! Who is behind the mask? Were they born hideous, or was it the result of a tragedy? Maybe they’re magically cursed to never reveal their face and even have superpowers that aid in their musical missions. Are they a misunderstood force of good all along, or just as dark and dangerous as they appear? One thing’s for sure – the show isn’t over until he says it is!
